Awards Evening Ceremony

Each year Awards ceremony gives the College opportunity to celebrate the success of our most hard working, successful and talented students and staff.

Whether the student’s talents are academic, social, musical or sporting, Awards Ceremony has evolved to reflect and applaud all achievements.

It is evident that the school’s motto ‘Confidence to Achieve’ means that students realise their talents and our College is here to nurture them.

Various awards are presented on this night ranging from Community Awards, Mini-School Awards to Year 12 Coursework Awards and many more.


Mini-School Awards

Each Mini-School within the College recognises students who have made significant achievements, academic success or participation throughout the academic year

Whole School Awards

The College recognises students who have made significant contributions in all aspects of their attendance at Sunbury Downs College as well as other significant achievements.

Year 12 Coursework Awards

These awards are presented to students to recognise individual students achieving the highest result for each Year 12 subject completed.

Community Awards

Each year Sunbury Downs College welcomes members of the Community to present a number of awards to students who have achieved recognition within the community.

Domain & Program Awards
  • Student has completed, to a high standard, all aspects of the work program during the course of the semester year
  • MYCAL& VCAL Programs are recognised at each level, acknowledging the student who has met competencies consistently and at a high standard
1 x per Domain, per Year Level in Years 7-11
1 x Vocational Program cohort, per Year
Year 12 Coursework Awards
  • Student who has achieved the highest academic outcomes of each Unit 3/4 Course in the current academic year
Students undertaking Unit 3/4 studies number dependant on Courses offered at the College
Musical Production Award
  • Recognises the student who has partaken in the annual Musical Production and worked to pursue excellence, both for themselves and peers
  • Consideration may be given to roles of mentorship, leadership and service within the group of students, parents and staff
1 x student from Production
College Council Encouragement Award
  • A Year 7 student who has embraced secondary school life, engaging in an array of activities and events that supplement their classroom learning.
1 x Year 7 student, as nominated by representatives of the Middle Years Mini-School Leadership Team
McEwen Award
  • MY student who has displayed a high level of contribution to the College in coPcurricular events and roles
  • Volunteerism and community service are highlighted in their pursuit to make a difference to the school and its community
1 x student, as nominated by Student Leadership Coordinators and representatives of the Middle Years Mini-School Team
Josh Bull Award
  • LY student who has displayed a high level of contribution to the College in coPcurricular events and roles
  • Volunteerism and community service are highlighted in their pursuit to impact the school and its community
1 x student, as nominated by Student Leadership Coordinators and representatives of the Later Years Mini-School Team
Louise Selwood Award
  • LY student who has demonstrated high levels of Leadership both with and beyond the College, as well as a selfless contribution to the community
  • A focus on events and priorities beyond those organised by the College
1 x student of Years 10P12, as nominated by Student Leadership Coordinators and representatives of the Later Years Mini-School Team
Pierre de Cubertin Award
  • LY student that has been involved in sports within and beyond the College arena, as well as helped enrich the sports programs on offer to their peers across the College
  • This may include participation in both team and individual pursuits, as well as the undertaking of roles such as coach or mentor
1 x student from Years 10-12, as nominated by Sports Coordinator [supplemented by Health & PE Staff if required]
Caltex Allrounder
  • LY student who has embraced academic development, displayed leadership qualities & performed as an allProunder in the College community
  • May include involvement in SRC, leadership roles and cocurricular programs offered at the College
  • Reference may be made to academic results, including semester reports, GPA data, as well as classroom teacher judgement
1 x student from Years 10-12, as nominated by representatives of the Later Years Mini-School Team
Kwong Lee Dow Scholarship [Melbourne University]
  • LY student who has demonstrated academic excellence across all areas of study in their current Year Level, pursuant to an academic future involving University studies
2-3x students from within Years 10-12, as endorsed by members of the Later Years Mini-School Team
ADF Long Tan Awards
  • LY student who has successfully demonstrated Leadership qualities & initiatives that have had a positive impact on the student population & school community, as well as instilling a sense of team work when working with others
  • Reference may be made to academic results, including semester reports, GPA data, as well as classroom teacher judgement
1 x Yr10 and 1 x Yr12 student, as nominated by Later Years Mini-School Team
National Servicemen’s Award
  • Year 11 student who has succeeded academically in the current year of study, regardless of adversity
  • Liaison with Student Services may be made in reference to final nominations, as well as academic results, including semester reports & GPA data
  • Award financially assists student in their upPcoming Year 12 studies
1 x Year 11 student as nominated by Later Years Mini-School Team

College Captains

Always presented at the end of the evening, is the handover ceremony for the College Captains.

The College Captains of the current year are recognised for their valued efforts and dedication.  

Following a short speech from each Captain, the outgoing captains then present the Captains in Waiting, elected by their peers with the College Blazers as they are presented to the community.
