Assistant Principal's Message

At Sunbury Downs College, the Junior Sub-School is committed to supporting students as they transition into secondary school and develop the confidence, resilience and skills needed to thrive. We foster a positive, inclusive and engaging learning environment where every student is known, valued and challenged to achieve their personal best.
Our work is underpinned by our College Values of Respect, Resilience, Ambition and Community, together with our School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) framework and Berry Street Education Model (BSEM) approach. Through these foundations, we build strong relationships, establish clear and consistent expectations, celebrate diversity, and create a culture where every student feels safe, connected and supported to succeed.
The Junior Sub-School recognises that Years 7 and 8 are a critical period in a student's educational journey. We place a strong emphasis on building positive learning habits, developing independence, strengthening student wellbeing and fostering a sense of belonging. We work in partnership with students and families to ensure individual needs are identified early and appropriate supports are provided. Home Group Teachers are the primary point of contact for families, working closely with Year Level Coordinators, Wellbeing staff and the broader College team to provide coordinated support for every student.
Our comprehensive transition program is designed to ensure students and families feel welcomed, connected and confident as they move from primary into secondary school. We believe a successful transition establishes the foundations for positive engagement, strong relationships and long-term success throughout a student's secondary education.
As Assistant Principal – Junior Sub-School, I provide strategic leadership for student engagement, wellbeing and learning across Years 7 and 8. I work collaboratively with the Junior Sub-School leadership team, teachers and education support staff to create a culture of high expectations, strong relationships and continuous growth. My focus is on ensuring every student is supported to engage positively in their learning, develop a strong sense of belonging, and build the skills and confidence to become successful learners and active members of our College community.
Together with our Junior Sub-School Leader, Year Level Coordinators and staff, I am committed to working in partnership with students and families to ensure every young person experiences a safe, inclusive and supportive environment where they are empowered to achieve success and reach their full potential. Every student deserves to be known, challenged and supported within a school that combines high expectations with genuine care, so they can become capable, responsible and confident people.
